At present I am writing text, imagining costumes and beginning to create movement for Cooking with Gas, the working title of a new piece that draws from my recent 108–day experience of not having cooking gas service in the apartment building where I live. Even more bizarre than not having gas was the incredibly byzantine and time–consuming process that included investigating conflicting explanations and seeking information from several city and state agencies and departments.

While gas leaks are a very serious matter, it still is not clear that a leak actually occurred in my building. I frequently felt as though the course of events would have made an excellent Marx Brothers film, and the humor in the piece will range from slapstick to satire, while wryly commenting on the piecemeal (dis)organization and resulting inefficiency of processes that are supposed to protect us.
